Notify Students From mySMU

Applies to: Faculty, my.SMU

The instructor will need to have a local mail client configured on the computer in order to use the Notify All Students option in the class roster.  Once the local client, such as Outlook, Windows Mail, etc has been configured, the instructor can log back in to my.SMU and use the Notify All Students option in the class roster.

  1. Click the My Schedule link
  2. Click the Class Roster button for the desired class
  3. To notify specific students:
    1. Check the boxes to the left of the names of the students you would like to notify
    2. Click Notify Selected Students
    3. You will be prompted to confirm your selections. Click Send Notification
    4. A new e-mail window will open in your computer’s default e-mail client
    5. You are able to add attachments, if needed
  4. To notify the entire class:
    1. Click Notify All Students
    2. A new e-mail window will open in your computer’s default e-mail client. No confirmation is required when notifying entire class
    3. You are able to add attachments, if needed

Note: If you are on a Mac and would like to Notify All Students through Outlook, the default mail client needs to be changed to Outlook. This can be done in Mail> Preferences
